shapath 2017

We at SHAPATH have taken an oath – a SHAPATH to fight against human trafficking- a growing evil in the society. To fullfill this oath, we are launching a citywide movement to create awareness among the residents of Pune to engineer a change in the perspective of the society towards the victims of human trafficking and educating school and college students about human trafficking.

To begin with, all the members of the SHAPATH team visited Budhwarpeth, an infamous red-light area of Pune. There we interacted with NGOs which are doing commendable work to save young girls entering this trade and are also helping some others escape this hell on earth. We even went into some of the brothels and were extremely troubled to see the plight of such young girls, mostly minors, forced into this terrible trade. This only strengthened our resolve to help them live a better life.

We initiated an education drive to spread awareness among students of school and colleges across Pune through presentations and documentaries. Over 30 schools and colleges were covered in this drive. Some of the institutions which were covered by the students of SCMHRD are:

  • College of Engineering, Pune
  • Kendriya Vidyalaya
  • Fergusson College
  • Bharathi Vidyapeeth
  • Other Symbiosis Institutes

Carrying forward these activities, a laptop drive was held at all the prominent locations of Pune on 24th and 25th August, 2008. Four hundred students of SCMHRD went to different locations in Pune and gave presentations about human trafficking and the gravity of the situation. This was done through display of posters, documentaries and street plays. The locations covered during the laptop drive were:

  • E-Square
  • Pune Railway Station
  • Pune Camp
  • Laxmi Road
  • Senapati Bapat Road
