PMI Pune Deccan Chapter’s Student Committee @ SCMHRD Back to committee page

PMI Pune-Deccan Students’ Chapter was launched on the 19th of July 2013 at SCMHRD. It operates primarily in collaboration with PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter. The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the world’s leading non-profit organization for the project management profession with the purpose of advancing and promoting the culture of project management. PMI’s activity takes place in Chapters located in over 80 countries. Chapters are open to PMI Members and led by volunteers.

PMI’s (US) and Pune Deccan Chapter of PMI promote experiencing project management in real life. PMIPune Deccan Chapter’s Student Committee @ SCMHRD was formed primarily to motivate students to take up certification courses (like CAPM and PMP) to augment their project management skills and to conduct Guest lectures and events focusing on Project Management Aspects.

Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Earning Power Report revealed a significant advantage in earning potential for PMP® certified practitioners. Survey respondents holding the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification report higher median salaries than those without a PMP certification―23% higher on average across the 37 countries surveyed.

 

ACTIVITIES

  1. 2015 - Best Summer Project 2015 (August 1, 2015)

A competition was conducted among the sister colleges of SCMHRD the PMI Pune- Deccan India Chapter. The event was judged by Mr.Girish Kadam (Head - PMI Pune-Deccan chapter), Shyam Bhavsar (Vice President, PMI Pune-Deccan India Chapter) and VARTUL MITTAL (AVP -Barclays).

  1. 2016 – Smart City Symposium

Building Smart Cities- Project Management Prospective (January 30, 2016)

After Pune’s bid for becoming a smart city was approved by the Government India. PMI proposed a symposium on “Building Smart Cities with a Project Management Perspective”. The event was graced by Mr. Kunal Kumar, (Municipal Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation), Dr. S. B. Mujumdar (Founder and Chairperson, SIU) Mr.Girish Kadam (President - PMI Pune-Deccan chapter), Dr.Pratima Sheorey (Director-SCMHRD) and 100+ industrialists.

Mr. Kunal Kumar shared his ideas and plans about Pune Smart City. Students of SCMHRD made a presentation on their work done to create “Vision Document” for Pune Municipal Corporation. In addition, 3 panel discussions were conducted on the following topics:

  1. Customer Centric View of a smart city – This will involve citizen representatives

  2. Eco-System Perspective of the project – Various representatives of Service providers discussed the requirements (IT, transport etc) and methods to meet them

  3. Project Management perspective – Creating a smart city is a major project. The panel discussed to identify critical success factors.

 

  1. 2018 - Infrablaze (2018)

 

The Guest session was held at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce in the presence of Industry connoisseur Mr. Rajaram Rao Bennangala( CEO and President of PMI Pune), Mr. Makrand Hardas ( VP Academic Interface PMI Deccan Chapter).

The guests shared their valuable experience with students about the importance of Project Management and the job oppurtunities in the sector along with the benefits of various PMI Certifications.

  1. 2019- Guest lectures

The guest lecture was held at SCMHRD in the presence of industry connoisseur Mr. Rajaram Rao Bennangala.
