CSR Conclave 2014: Connecting the Unconnected

Giving back to the society and nurturing that which has aided our growth, forms an integral part of our life at SCMHRD.  In the year, 2008, the faculty and students of SCMHRD, took an oath– a S.H.A.P.A.T.H to combat human trafficking (Forced prostitution and child labour).

S.H.A.P.A.T.H (Symbiosis Headstart for Awareness, Prevention and Action against Trafficking of Humans) has the status of being the Corporate Social Responsibility cell of SCMHRD. It is a student driven body and is supported by the faculty and the director of the institute.

Since its inception, S.H.A.P.A.T.H. has done substantial work in the area of rehabilitation and development. We have conducted activities like art therapy sessions, computer training, candle making etc. at various venues like the NGO Saheli, Mundhwa & Hadapsar rescue foundations that house women rescued from trafficking.  Project "JEEVIKA" is our latest social entrepreneurship initiative for women affected by human trafficking and is providing them a sustainable source of income.

CSR Conclave 2014 was a platform to connect with all the stakeholders of human trafficking and acted as a stride forward in fight against the evil. The occasion was graced by the fashion designer Ms. Shaina NC and socialite and chairperson of USK Group, Mrs. Usha Kakkde.

The event saw corporates from companies like Godrej and Boyce manufacturing co. ltd. and Cummins India, sharing their insights about varied topics related to CSR like diversity and inclusion, employee engagement through CSR and Corporate Shared Value (CSV).

The event also witnessed speakers like Ms. Shanta Gyanchand, Mr. Asim Sarode, Ms.Upasana Kaushik, Dr.Philip Coelho and Dr.Venkatesha murthy as part of a thought provoking panel discussion. The final round of the innovative and social B-Plan event “Pscyhe-Out”, which had total 3 rounds consisting of a mixture of simulations, case studies and presentations, was also held as part of the CSR Conclave.

The major highlights were, however, the lovely and elegant performance by the kids of Hope for Glory Foundation and the heart wrenching life story narrated by survivors of human trafficking, to whom S.H.A.P.A.T.H provided a platform to share their tough journey. The event ended with a note by the director which will act as a boost towards our efforts, our vision.
