ANNUAL FINANCE CONCLAVE

1st February 2015 witnessed a grand event, the Annual Finance Conclave'15 on the theme "Corporate Governance: A 360 Degree View" in the SIC Auditorium organised by the Finance Club, Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development in association with our Title Sponsor CFA Institute, Associate Sponsor JK Cement Ltd., Knowledge Partner PwC India, Food Partner PIBS,  co Sponsors Capitalmind.in and ProfitBooks. The event was inaugurated by Shri Dilip Kamble ji, Honourable Minister of State for Social Justice and Special Assistance, Govt. of Maharashtra. The event was also graced by Mr. Salil Singhal, Chairman PI industries, Mr. Ashish Chauhan M.D. and C.E.O, Bombay Stock Exchange and Mr. Nasser Munjee, chairman of DCB Bank. Dr. S.B Mujumdar Hon’ble Chancellor, SIU and Dr. Vidya Yeravadekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis were also present to bless the occasion. The event started by lighting of the lamp by all the esteemed dignitaries. 

Post that Mr. Salil Singhal spoke about the importance of Corporate Governance and  how Corporate Governance and value systems are interlinked and cannot be separated from each other.

Mr. Ashish Chauhan started on a thought provoking note saying how Corporate and Governance are poles apart yet it's the necessity of the time to align them together. He went on to say that though Corporate Governance is presumed to be a recent phenomenon it was in existence since long back and the importance of regulations for any organization.

Mr. Nasser Munjee talked about his industry experience, his days in IDFC and how he revamped the  structure at HDFC to make it a value based organization.

For the panel discussion 'Directors' Dialogue', Ms. Mini Menon , Executive Editor Bloomberg TV joined the trio with Ms. Pavni Mittal, correspondent CNBC TV18 as the moderator. The discussion touched upon the various aspects of Corporate Governance like the mandatory  appointment of woman director, impact of corporate governance on the top and the bottom line of the company and  whether regulations are just a box ticking exercise. They converged on the thought that Corporate Governance is the requirement of the companies themselves. The most profitable and long lasting organizations have a robust Corporate Governance system in place.

The Directors' Dialogue brought about diverse points of views from an industrialist, government regulator, media person and  banker and it made significant contribution to the knowledge base of the students. The discussion ended with a question answer session.

Mr. Vidhu Shekhar, Country head CFA India, Mr. Neeraj Sharma Partner in assurance practices, PwC India, Mr. Deepak Shenoy, founder Capitalmind.in and Mr. Harshal Katre, founder Profit Books addressed the audience and gave away the prizes for the winners of Fin-Track, a case study competition organized as part of the conclave. The Team Suits from SIBM Pune-Vaghul Ramanujam and Anirudh.D was adjudged as the runners up and team 2G from IIM Indore -Manoj Bedi and Kunal Shah emerged as the winners.
