Guest Lecture by Kenneth McQueen, Project Management Consultant, MMRDA Monorail Project

On 17th August 2013, Mr.Kenneth McQueen, Project Management Consultant for MMRDA’s Monorail Project, visited SCMHRD campus. He has acted as a consultant to many Metro and Light Rail Systems, including Singapore MRT, Taipei RTS, Kaoshiung TRC, Hong Kong MTR and KLIA Express Rail Link in Malaysia. In 1996 he joined Louis Berger as the CM&EE for the Izmir Metro, followed by Bursa Metro, Eskisehir Tram, Dubai Metro and just recently for the Samson Light Rail System in NE Turkey.

His presentation was set out to present the scenario for maybe having a Monorail System in Pune, based on the infrastructure innovations that have evolved during the Design, Construction and now Testing & Commissioning of India’s first monorail system in Mumbai.

The session was a visual walk-through wherein we saw the history of monorail, its types and feasibility structures and the difficulties that were faced in the MMRDA project. We were shown the plans for the various systems which are to be integrated for the much awaited completion of this project, the first monorail system in India.

This interactive session with Mr. McQueen was a one-of-a-kind opportunity as it gave us insights on the major infrastructural paradigm shift in India towards monorails.
