Guest Lecture for Infrastructure Management By Prof. Charanjit Singh Shah

On 15th November, Prof. Charanjit Singh Shah, Founder Principal Architect, Creative Groupvisited SCMHRD campus for a guest lecture on Urban Transportation and Infrastructure Development. An architect, educationist & academician, he established Creative Group in 1973 with a sincere approach towards Green Architecture in India. He has spearheaded some landmark sustainable projects in India including the most recently inaugurated Swami Vivekanada Airport at Raipur, India and Kamraj Airport Terminal at Chennai, India. He has also been the Chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects, Chairman - SAARCH, Founder Secretary General, Guild of Practicing Architects, Secretary General & Chief advisor, Archi Design.

Prof. Shah shared his experiences, thoughts and best practices from these major  projects in particular and his vast professional experience for executing mega projects like Concept planning for metro rails, airports, university campus,  residential, and commercial in  most sustainable manner.

The session started with a presentation, explaining the challenges currently faced in the transportation sector in India and how the interface of physical planning, engineering and project management is the most crucial step in project implementation. A case-based study of city planning of some historic places in India stood testament to the above. A movie clip was later shown which depicted how the Koba circle master plan for metro came about.


The entire session was interactive and the importance of Intermodal Hubs was realized by all. The students and the faculty alike found it a highly useful session enriched with the nuggets of his experience from which we had a lot to learn.
