Entreprenuership Week

Today, while India offers tremendous opportunity, the entrepreneurial ecosystem still has a long way to go: infrastructure issues, cultural barriers, legal and regulatory hurdles, and corruption still make starting and growing a venture very difficult for the new, young or future entrepreneur. The answer lies in creating a Winning Ecosystem!

From February 24 to March 3, 2007, people across India celebrated the Entrepreneurship Week India. Held for the first time, Entrepreneurship Week celebrated today’s opportunities and directed work towards improvement in the ecosystem for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial people.

SCMHRD played its part in the Entrepreneurship Week through the Entrepreneurship Cell. The week was highlighted with guest lectures and competitions centered around Entrepreneurship.

The Inauguration and Dr. V. G. Patel's Success Mantras
Dr. V. G Patel, the Founder Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (Ahmedabad) inaugurated the Entrepreneurship Week celebrations. Speaking on the topic of Success Mantras for Entrepreneurs, Dr Patel drove home the point that entrepreneurship ventures must be realistic in their outlook and execution.
The students of SCMHRD made their own contribution via an awe-inspiring presentation. They proved with pictures that Entrepreneurs are all around us and that Entrepreneurship is not just about starting a business, but a way of thinking.

The E-Sell Business Game
E-Sell was a business game with the basics of Entrepreneurship built into it. Conceptualized by SCMHRD Alumni Entrepreneur Dr. Hemant Nandigala, this game required 5 teams of 3 people each to run an actual trading business for three days. Each team was given seed capital and a goal of making maximum profit at the end of the third day.

After three successful days of competitive strategies, advertising and hard selling, the teams interacted with Dr. Nandigala himself for an analysis of their strategies and techniques.

Dr Nandigala currently heads the Rs.400Cr biotech company he founded, Virchow Biotech.

Unfreeze
Directed at elucidating the knowledge frozen inside the numerous books of leaders and entrepreneurs, this game drove its participants to capture the essence of these books in a 10 minute presentation. The idea was simple - could the participants condense the ground breaking insights down to a level which could be understood and passed on to others?

The participants also went through an extempore and a “vulture capital” session. The “vulture capital” round was a role-play where the participants took turns to play 'venture capitalist' and 'budding entrepreneur'.

The Entrepreneurship Quiz
Tickling the gray cells, this inter-college quiz was focused on Entrepreneurship and challenged the participant's knowledge in this unusual area of General Knowledge.

The Closing Ceremony and Cdr D. D. Naik's Entrepreneurial Journey
The Entrepreneurship Week was brought to a close with the visit of Cdr Dipak. D. Naik, a highly decorated Navy-Officer-turned-Entrepreneur. His inspirational speech and story of his entrepreneurial ventures were a tribute to how anyone can be an entrepreneur and how it's never too late to start one's own venture.

The Entrepreneurship Week was celebrated in joint effort with the National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). NEN works with 150 academic institutes, across 12 regions of India, to launch the next generation of entrepreneurs.
