Entrepreneurship Cell

Objectives

The era of globalization today has witnessed the emergence of a new breed of people ready to start their own enterprise. To nurture these entrepreneurs of tomorrow, the Entrepreneurship Cell at SCMHRD or e-cell (as is the popular lingo out here) – started out in 2005 with this mission in mind:

  1. To encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship among students
  2. To disseminate knowledge about entrepreneurship

Description

The Entrepreneurship Cell is an association managed and driven by students in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence Entrepreneurial. The e-cell organizes a variety of activities centered on entrepreneurship:

Interactions with successful alumni Entrepreneurs

Interacting with people who share a piece of history with us and have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs provides us with just the right dose of confidence and spurs us on. Some of our successful alumni entrepreneurs include Dr. Hemant Nandigala (Virchow Biotech) and Mr. Prakash Mundhra (Sacred Moments).

Guest Lectures

Enhancing the feel of entrepreneurship are academicians and other successful entrepreneurs who provide us valuable insights into the real world with their perspectives and experiences. Mr. Gerard J Rego (serial entrepreneur and VP & GM India at MSC Software) and Mr. Sanjay Anandram ( JumpStartUp ), Dr. V. G. Patel ( Founder Director, EDI ), Dr. Athreya ( Management Consultant ), Dr. Ranjit Date ( PARI Robotics ), Mr. Rohit Agarwal ( techTribe ), Mr Cheema ( Cheema Boilers ) and the famed Dhabbawalas, are some of the distinguished guests who have shared their inspiring success stories with us in the past.

Workshops

Workshops aimed at nurturing creative and innovative thinking, business plan creation and information on how to start a company have been planned for this year. The goal of these workshops is knowledge enhancement – to answer the standard set of "How do I...?" questions entrepreneurs have.

Business Plan Competition

Culminating during the college’s inter-B-School event, NEEV, the e-cell Business Plan contest over the past two years rang in over 200 entries from all the top B-schools. The sheer magnitude of this event surpassed all expectations.

Case Studies

Keeping the tradition of innovativeness alive in our work, we decided to encourage the spirit of business and entrepreneurship among the student fraternity by initiating this pilot project of creating and publishing cases on entrepreneurs to be used as instruction material for the students, corporates and entrepreneurs.

The Case study team of e-cell SCMHRD was incorporated in Oct 2007 and has been successful in developing five case studies on varied business models being followed in different sectors like catering, language translation and cab services.

AIM – Aspirations, Innovations and My role in it

The very essence of the magazine is leadership, development of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking. We intend to use this as a medium to spread the message and spirit of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship across colleges as well as corporates as we believe that each one of us has it in us to become an entrepreneur, to add value to society and create value.

The magazine was conceptualised as a launch pad for the cases on entrepreneurs being developed in-house by the cell. However, it also has contributions from corporates, alumni and the students of SCMHRD.

The magazine was launched with much fanfare at the closing ceremony of Entrepreneurship Week 2008 by Dilip Chabaria (DC).

Entrepreneurship Games

Played during the Entrepreneurship Week in Feburary, these games are aimed at giving a realistic feel for different aspects of entrepreneurship. These games give a deeper learning and understanding of the skills and insights needed to be a successful entrepreneur.

Being a growing organization itself, this year the e-cell is moving ahead rapidly with the objectives of increasing the visibility of Entrepreneurship and increasing value-addition to the students.
