Teaching and learning styles

A diverse range of teaching and learning methods are used on the various modules within the program. Sessions typically involve group work and interactive discussion to draw out the experience within the classroom and relate theory to practical experience. Learning opportunities are further enhanced by Workshops, Experiential Learning, and Reflection & Strategy paper. Many cases are selected from top schools like Harvard Business School, IIM A to name a few. In addition to mainstream textbooks, teaching materials are drawn from a variety of current sources such as academic journals, magazines and videos. Teaching techniques are customized to enable students to think on their own which would help them in their future career path. The blend of technology into the teaching methods helps facilitate a greater understanding.

Assessment processes

Assessment is given in each course/module & is taken through a mix of student presentations, business simulation projects, case writing & analysis to name a few. The assignments may be individual or group-based, or a mixture of the two. The assignments and projects require you to adopt an objective approach which is theory-led but practice-driven. This enables you to draw on your own observations and experience of working life. Quizzes are conducted regularly to check the understanding & knowledge level of the students. The passing criteria of these quizzes and the final examinations are uploaded under the examination link.

Personal study

All courses require pre-reading and preparation, and personal research – you should expect to spend a minimum 10% of your time on this throughout the course. The library, with its extensive resources of print-based and online materials, will be a vital element in this process.

Summer/Winter Project

For many students the Summer/Winter Project is the climax of their MBA – and, for some, can lead to offers of employment. Our clients comprise all types of organization: large, medium and small, public and private sector. Summer Project also acts as a platform for the corporate to interact with the future managers and also provide a window of opportunity for the institute to reach out to the various business houses. The project period starts in the first week of April/ Jan and continues for a period of two months. The ever increasing quality of the summer projects with which the students @SCMHRD have been entrusted, shows the trust the corporate sector has placed in this Institute. At the end of the project students are assessed for their work on various aspects such as contribution to the organization, meeting of deadlines and professional relationship with other members of the organization. Projects culminate in an academic dissertation, which includes the report produced for the client. The academic dissertation places the client report in a theoretical context.

Academic Projects

Emphasis is given on the research work done by the students of MBA program as a part of the curriculum. The students work on areas of research which are identified by a joint team of faculty and industry experts. SCMHRD aims to implement the findings of these research studies rather than confine the limits of the same to an academic dissertation.

Capstone Business Simulation

Capstone business simulations engage participants in a dynamic competition to turn struggling companies into successful, profitable businesses. Classes are divided into teams that work together to focus on strategy, finance, production, marketing and all the key elements that interact to build their business. Capstone provides the rare opportunity to experience running a complete business, with the benefit of reports that show clear correlations between management decisions and outcomes. Faced with a full range of strategy-based decision-making options, participants have the opportunity to try new tactics, test unfamiliar strategic paradigms and take risks in a risk-free environment.
